It’s time for the September 2013 recap, soggy lawn edition!
Here is the Timelapse!
This September started off not bad but the last half really soaked us. We had nice weather to start. We only got 1.6mm of rain through the first 14 days of September. Then things changed. We had a few rain storms go through… but it was the last 4 days that really did the trick. From September 27 to September 30, we received 102.3mm of rain. More than double our normal rainfall for the entire month.
In fact, at the official 215mm for September we got more rain than is normal for October 203mm.
As far as temperature, we had a much higher than normal minimums (+4.2C) and normal maximums. So our overall average was more than 1C above normal.
We will see what October holds. Lets hope we don’t double up on it’s monthly rain totals. I don’t think we will. The last long range forecast I saw indicated a ‘normal’ October. So expect it to be wet, but now that we’re used to September, it shouldn’t seem too bad.
I’ll be back tomorrow with a daily forecast. Expect showers today and maybe some breaks in the clouds tomorrow. We have a big blob headed our way for Saturday but nothing as dramatic as last weekend.

Comparison to recent years at Alberniweather (only).
Last year. DRY. This year. WET.
2012:
2013 was about the same temperature on average, but it felt warmer in 2012 because we had higher highs even though they were balanced out by lower lows. However, last year we had one of our driest summers ever from June straight through October. We only received 4mm of rain in September 2013. This year, well, we got a lot more.
2011:
September 2013 was still a little warmer than the bummer summer September of 2011 on average, but high temps were almost exactly the same. However, again, the rain this year has really been exceptional. We got 109mm in 2011. This year, we got almost double that. It has been wet.
2010:
September 2013 was a little warmer than 2010. We doubled the 2010 rainfall.
2009:
September 2009 was cooler to this year for temperature, but again, we doubled the rainfall this year.
2008:
September 2008 was warmer for highs but cooler lows. 2008 half of normal rain. (24mm)
