Wind and rain Sunday then….. that “S” word?

It’s going to be another wet, windy day today. No warnings up for us. There is a rainfall warning for Metro Vancouver though!

THere aren’t any really organized fronts coming at us, just seems to be a constant stream of weather with pockets of heavy activity here and there.

The interesting day this week looks to be Thursday. They’re calling for it to clear up and get down to minus 3 on Thursday night. We’ll see about that, but with showers in the forecast after that, who knows, maybe we have a slight chance of a Snow Contest winner! 😉

Update: You may notice some downtime (no updates) on the website today. I’ll be updating my system to Snow Leopard (MacOS X 10.6) today and into this evening. No weather data will be lost, but it might be a few hours before updates return on the website itself.

Update: System update completed successfully.

Thought your weather was running on a Slug? (NSLU2)

I was, but it was getting extremely bogged down with the amount of records I have now. It would take almost an hour just to restart.

So I had to switch to using my Mac Mini.

Almost done by the way… the system is updated and the software installed, just going through configurations.

Is the software you used on the SLUG having to process all your records when it starts? Seems a little silly to me. I guess it depends on how it was engineered.

On a weather related note, I see the rain is starting to pickup. Perhaps we’ll see the 40-50mm of rain they are calling for.

It is a little silly, it generates reports in NOAA format from all of the records by default. It’s a little better now because it does it in sqlite format rather than a file, but it would still take far too long to initialize. It was clearly way to much for the little 300Mhz processor to handle.

On the mini it starts uploading data within about 90 seconds from a standstill.

It was raining like crazy on the west side of the hump this morning. Don’t know if we’ll get that 50mm. But at least everyone is getting it :)… walking (jogging) from the bus to my building was a wet today!

Yeah, its been wet this morning, I’m sitting at 38mm and still counting.

I see the forecast has been updated to show 2 days in a row with colder low temps. I’m thinking slush more than snow.

Well I had the other S-word today….”slush” mixed in with the rain…was around 1pm today.
