It begins
The storm is here. I have already recorded 40mm of rain on my station since midnight. Maquinna elementary has recorded 55mm. For the rest of the day, the most recent information will be at the top of this page and on twitter. Send in your reports by including the #alberniwxstorm hashtag on twitter and they will appear here automatically as will anything with the #bcstorm hashtag.

Rain rain rain… Wind.
The rain is the story so far this morning. Here is the graph from Maquinna.
Environment Canada has issued a wind warning and, unusually, has mentioned Port Alberni specifically here it is:
Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.
A low pressure system is quickly approaching the BC Coast this morning. The low is expected to make landfall near central Vancouver Island near noon.
Southwesterly winds of 70 to 90 km/h with potentially higher gusts will develop over inland Vancouver Island this afternoon, including the town Port Alberni. Winds will ease this evening.
The winds have begun to pick up on the East side of the Island. Winds are already gusting to 30knots (60kph) at Entrance Island outside of Nanaimo.
All ferries to the mainland have been cancelled for the morning and are likely to be cancelled in the afternoon too. I will leave it there. Monitor the feed at the top of this page for the latest! Take care out there and send in your reports!
