Check out the October Summary
Don’t miss the October 2022 Summary post and the 20 records set last month in Port Alberni!
Chance of Snow Saturday Night – early Sunday especially the Hump and Sutton?
The moisture will move onto the Island tonight. You can see the model predicting rain (greys/blacks) in the low areas and snow (green) at higher elevation. Saturday night and Sunday morning is the most likely time for Port Alberni to get some wet snow at least flying in the air, but likely not accumulating.
The exception is the Hump and Sutton Pass. Expect periods of heavy snow and reduced visibility and probably accumulating on the roads. This picture in the 9-10AM hour looks like heavy snow on the Hump.
East Side Strait-Effect on Sunday Afternoon
Winds will shift to outflow on Sunday and strengthen Sunday afternoon. The models are predicting for this to produce Strait-Effect snow on the East Side concentrating in Courtenay/Comox and Nanaimo.
This is the 4-5PM model. Looks heaviest around Hornby and Denman Island and Baynes Sound. Another patch develops from around Nanoose to Nanaimo.
Very difficult to predict snowfall amounts with this kind of setup but the blue areas around Baynes Sound could be 5-10cm in very small areas.
There will be the possibility of isolated snow showers through Sunday night but will clear up by Monday morning.
Happy Snowy Weekend!
