Reports at DriveBC.ca are that the highway has now reopened but it is single lane alternating traffic. Expect delays. It’s also not very nice weather here in Port Alberni. The clouds have rolled in, it’s blustery and the rain is a little sideways!
Stay safe out there and avoid the highways if possible. Apparently many traffic lights are also out on Highway 19 and 19A around Nanaimo and possibly elsewhere.

Highways remain closed to the West Side of Vancouver Island.
Other places continue to clean up after the storm.
The top wind values I saw were 86 and 87 knots at Sartine Island and South Brooks buoy off North Vancouver Island. That is 160kph. Incredible!
There are some lightning storms in the unstable air that remains.
We are also likely to get a less powerful storm on Thursday/Friday. More details on that tonight or tomorrow.
Stay safe out there, these are my comments on the storm and the impacts.
Original Post – Quick update
My internet connection at home is unhappy since the two power outages so currently my internet access is intermittent. Updates on the website will be delayed for now. I will keep updating on Mastodon on the front page or at https://mstdn.ca/@alberniweather.
Highway 4 remains closed due to debris. Check DriveBC or listen to the Peak for updates.
BCHydro power outages are extensive across the Island.
Take care out there!
