Father’s Day – First Day of Summer Mini Heat Wave

Father’s Day – First Day of Summer Mini Heat Wave

Woke up this morning to a notification from Environment Canada in my Inbox that we should expect a minor heatwave to roll through from Sunday to Tuesday.

Normal temperatures for this time of year are in the low to mid 20s which is what we have been enjoying lately. The Special Weather Statement issued today says in part there is a risk of temperatures “5 to 10 degrees above seasonal”.

That will put us squarely into the 30-35°C range.

UWash Model says hottest Monday

Sunday
Sunday Afternoon
Monday Afternoon

You can see above that the high resolution Uwash Model predicts temperature for the Alberni Valley in the 29-31°C range. So on the lower end of that 5-10°C above normal band. Environment Canada expects a slightly higher value of 32°C on Monday. Both agree that Monday will be the hottest, though EC is still predicting an afternoon high of 27°C while UWash, as you see below, has much cooler temperatures only just hitting 20°C for the Island with the heat shifting completely into the Interior.

Tuesday Afternoon

Regardless of the temperatures, we will remain dry for the foreseeable future. There is no moisture for the central or South Island expected in the next week.

Have a wonderful weekend, Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there, and Happy First Day of Summer tomorrow! 🙂
