The kids got an early Christmas present! About 3cm of snow at Alberniweather HQ… as much as 10cm elsewhere, and a snow day on the last day of school!
CONGRATULATIONS TO DEB WHO GUESS 3:30AM THIS MORNING AS THE FIRST TIME FOR SNOW! YOU WIN! AND YOU HAVE EMAIL! ๐ Or email me (alberniweather@gmail.com) if you don’t!
Deb will get a fabulous little gift pack from Healthy Habits! Thanks Healthy Habits!
All schools are closed in SD70 today. And for good reason. There is widespread snow and roads are pretty treacherous. But really, it’s also just a nice thing to do for the last day of school I think, don’t you? ๐ Probably the best day of the year to have a snow day!
Expect this snow to stick around. There won’t be a enough rain to really wash it away until Monday. The drizzle today will only get rid of it on the roads I think. Who knows, we might still have enough remnants to call a ‘white Christmas’ in at least some parts of the Valley!
If you are driving PLEASE BE CAREFUL. On my drive to VIU this morning (which is still open) roads were variable, but treacherous from Port Alberni, on Highway 4 and the Hump, Highway 19 in Qualicum and the Nanaimo Parkway. It is still snowing pretty good in Nanaimo.
Cameron Lake was particularly slippery. So was the Nanaimo Parkway, where it is still snowing hard.
I believe there has already been some freezing rain. And there may be more this morning. If it hasn’t already switch, I expect there to be only drizzle or light rain showers by around Noon.
