Sunday 5PM Update
The wildfire service has added the fire to its system now but there is not much information. Currently listed at 0.01hectares.
A slash pile fire at a construction site off of Shady Mile Way is being tackled by numerous fire crews.

CHEK reports:
”BREAKING: Nanaimo RCMP say a bushfire near Shady Mile Way is now under control. Local fire crews and the B.C. Wildfire Service are also on the scene. A helicopter is assisting in firefighting efforts”

Sunday 4PM Update
There are a number of fires burning. All likely to be human caused. The most dangerous looks like one at the base of Mt. Benson. I will post updates on the blog as I see them so make sure you click through to the website.

It is not yet listed on the bcwildfire page… you can see there is one near Courtenay, one near Victoria, and one near Port Alberni, which I believe was a car fire on the logging road near China Creek this morning.
The fire danger across the province and on Vancouver Island in particular is rising though. The south east Island has a few areas of extreme danger.
