Update 4: 3:15PM: snow is all done in Nanaimo and everywhere else it appears. Sun is breaking through and slush is melting. But it has that chill in the air… Everyone bundle up tonight, -7C forecast, expect ice tomorrow!
Update 3: 12:14PM: It is snowing moderately at VIU campus and it is now sticking. Be careful on the roads around Nanaimo.
Update 2: 8:30AM: It is currently snowing lightly at VIU campus is clear. Roads aren’t great but OK, drive safe.
Update 1: 8AM: It is currently snowing heavily at VIU but the campus is clear.
The snow officially reached the East Coast last night. There are varying amounts but nothing over 5cm by the looks of it between QB and Nanaimo.
There is still a snowfall warning up for points north of Qualicum.
The skies should clear tonight and give us our coldest weather yet with a low tomorrow morning predicted to reach -7C and -3C on Sunday. I am a little skeptical that our fog will allow the temperature to drop that far. It all depends on if there is enough dry air to push it out and lower the temperature.
Regardless, if we don’t see any significant warming on Sunday then sunday night will be interesting as what looks like the beginnings of our first big rain event sweeps in.
At this point it looks like a classic dump of heavy, wet, snow Sunday Night and Monday morning followed by 2 days of steady rain which should push 100-150mm by the time the rain stops on Thursday.
Safe driving.

Well, I think if it would have stayed clear, that -7 would have been do-able… looks like it has clouded/fogged over, and the temp is rising at the moment, or at least it is here on the south end of town.
Looks like -1.5 is as low is it got here, but it’s -2.8 right now on Mike’s Ucluelet station.
We were in the snow in North Nanaimo on Friday. It sure wasn’t moderate! Visibility was 100 yards at best, and they weren’t snowflakes coming down, but friggin snowballs! Yikes!
