Update: 7:01AM
Just saw on twitter that the Elections Canada website is down due to too much traffic. If you have any questions about voting, don’t hesitate to call me anytime today. Or just head down to the Friendship Centre with at least one photo ID and a proof of your name and address (a renters agreement, hydro bill and many other things work if your address doesn’t match your photo ID. Text or call me at 250-731-7930 or leave a message on facebook, twitter or comment here.
This post is being posted at exactly 7AM when polls for Canada’s 42nd General Election open in BC. The polls close at 7PM. Your employer *must* allow you three hours to go vote. Many in Port Alberni will be voting at the Friendship Centre (on lower 4th by the bottle depot). Check your voting card or elections.ca to see where you vote. When I got to the bus stop just now at 6:45AM in Parksville there was already a line forming at the Parksville Community Centre.
There is only a very slight chance of some rain this morning, the rest of the day will be cloudy, but dry. So no excuses! Get out there, bring a friend or three, and vote! If you are not sure what you need or where to go head to www.elections.ca. Or please don’t hesitate to give me a call or send me a message. While I will not be able to give rides today, I am happy to help in any way I can. And the Port Alberni transit bus are all free today to give people rides to the polls!
Happy Democracy Day Port Alberni!
