There has been a wind warning issued for both sides of the Island and but in particular the West Coast is expecting gusts in exposed areas of up to 100kph. (aside: have you put in your snow guess yet? :))
Here is the warning (all caps from warning):
10:37 AM PDT Wednesday 26 October 2016
Wind warning in effect for:
- West Vancouver Island
Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.
A DEEP LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM APPROACHING VANCOUVER ISLAND FROM THE
SOUTH WILL RESULT IN SOUTHEAST WINDS OF 80 KM/H GUSTING TO 100 OVER THE EXPOSED COASTAL SECTIONS OF WEST VANCOUVER ISLAND EARLY THIS EVENING. THE WINDS WILL DIMINISH OVERNIGHT AS THE LOW MOVES TO THE NORTH AND WEAKENS.
Again, there is no warning for the Port Alberni area. There is a lesser warning issued for winds up to 70kph for the East side of the Island.
Here is the system in question in this mornings model run for 8PM tonight sitting roughly due west of Port Alberni:
The low is supposed to come ashore on the North end of the Island. There is a potential for strong winds in the Alberni Valley but it is not expected at this time.
Our best chance at strongest winds are likely to come around the 11PM-2AM timeframe overnight tonight and we’ll probably get some heavy rain with it as well.
It should start to dry out tomorrow morning and we might even see some clear breaks on Thursday afternoon and evening.
We then have a few more waves coming on Friday and Saturday. It’s definitely fall!
Happy Wednesday!
