UPDATE 3: Windstorm on the Way – 100kph+ expected

UPDATE 3: 10:15AM

Just as I was typing the last update we got a gust to 95kph. There are reports of trees down in Beaver Creek and wires down near TIm Hortons. Please be careful out there. Stay way back from any downed power line… and stay in your car if something is down across the road.
Plenty of power outages around Vancouver Island.

UPDATE 2: 9:45AM

It’s started up! Sustained 50kph Gusting to 65kph so far. Will we break the Alberniweather all time record of gusts to 103kph? We’ll see.
Note, any directions you see reporting “N” or “0” are anomalies due to a hardware fault on the station when moisture gets into the electronics. The recorded speed is accurate though.

UPDATE 1: 8:30AM

Nothing much happening right now… unless you’re on Solander Island off the North West coast of VI. Sustained Winds at 8AM: 133kph. Gusting to 161kph. Nice.

BC Ferries has cancelled all sailings, there are some power outages in Campbell River. Winds should pick up here within the next hour or two.
______________

6AM:
The storm is producing 50knot winds off the coast of Oregon right now.

If you want to watch its progress, I like the Water Vapour loop the best under the Animations sections in the Satellite section of the website.

THe forecast has not changed. We are forecast to receive up to 100kph winds by late this morning. On the West Coast winds could reach 120-140kph and on the East Coast they could reach 110kph.

You can fully expect all BC Ferries runs to be delayed or cancelled soon after the winds start to blow. CKNW just reported that the sailings between Tsawwassen and Duke Point and the Southern Gulf Islands have been cancelled this morning.

Expect power outages this afternoon and evening. Get your candles and/or generators ready. Some warm blankets too if you have electric heat as there is still plenty of cool air around. There has been snow in large parts of the North and Inner Island all night.

Have fun, stay safe!

It looks like 35 – 45 knot South and Southwest winds on the trailing end of that image. I’m still hoping it’ll slide up past us far enough away that the winds don’t funnel up the Inlet.

I really hope they do funnel up the inlet cause i love storms so much excitment. snow is great but i love a little wind and rain. right not the wind doesnt look very promising in the valley at all. 🙁

It just started to blow straight from the south here in downtown PA.

This wind is getting dull now… its nothing like they were expecting.

I think it moved through a lot faster than they had anticipated. They did call the gust pretty well though.

It looks like the barometer’s on its way up again, maybe the peak is over already. I think the trajectory was a little more offshore and then turning westward than it looked like originally.

Awesome day guys! Just not long enough………..tonight is quite special too, lots of wind, hail, rain and it’s 1.7c and goin’ down in Beaver Creek.

Well, that was a fizzle. All the beaches out here were closed due to extremely high waves. There’s also a Youtube video by Lance Blackwell showing some of the waves at Amphitrite Point. Quite wild, and he had to bail from where he was too!
